NEVADA – Stefan Howard Jr., the 17-year-old suspected in the tragic shooting near the University of Nevada earlier this week, made an appearance in court on Thursday for a bail hearing. The hearing took place via video link from the Washoe County Jail, but it was subsequently continued to the following week.
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has clarified that this delay is aimed at ensuring that the suspect has proper legal representation. Howard Jr. is facing a charge of open murder in connection with the shooting deaths of two individuals on Virginia Street, situated across from the UNR campus, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Both of the victims, like the suspect, were also under the age of 18. The Washoe County Coroner’s Office has identified one of the victims as 17-year-old Santiago Rodriguez, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
According to law enforcement, the incident initially began as an argument at a different location and eventually escalated, culminating in the tragic events that unfolded at the Fifteen51 apartments.
As the investigation into this heart-wrenching incident continues, authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
