The Maternal and Child Health Program at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center Has Been Discontinued
The hospital says it had to make this “difficult decision” because the number of births has gone down, and there are “staffing issues and limits to anesthesia coverage.”
Saint Mary’s says that the hospital will still offer gynecological services and emergency care for pregnant women who go to the ER. They also say that they will stop taking obstetric patients who need to give birth right away.
“Current NICU and pediatric patients will be moved safely to the right places for care while ensuring they have all the resources they need.”
We talked to Renown Health, and they want pregnant women to know where they can now go for care.
A spokesperson for Renown Health gave us the following statement:
“Renown Health is happy to take care of women who need care before, during, or after giving birth. Renown is also ready to care for people in the NICU and PICU. Renown Regional, Renown Children’s Hospital, and Renown South Meadows all have emergency rooms that are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Ten urgent care centers run by Renown are ready to help people with non-life-threatening conditions. For locations and hours, please visit Renown.org/urgentcare.”
Saint Mary’s also says that affected employees will be given jobs at Saint Mary’s and other Prime Health facilities.
