NEVADA – A crash involving a semi-truck and SUV has caused major traffic delays on I-15 southbound near Owens. The collision led to a car fire on the freeway and the closure of all but one lane.
The Nevada State Police reported that the woman driver in the SUV sustained moderate injuries and was transported to University Medical Center. The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. and according to an initial investigation, a semi-truck failed to maintain its travel lane and crossed into a far-right lane, striking the left rear of the SUV.
Trooper Ashlee Wellman stated that the impact caused the SUV to be redirected across all travel lanes, hitting the center median barrier before sliding to the middle travel lane where it caught fire.
Wellman confirmed that impairment is not suspected at this time. The accident has caused significant traffic delays, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible.
