Two Dead In Winnemucca Train Accident
NEVADA – A train crash in Winnemucca early Sunday morning killed two individuals.
Around 2 a.m. on Dec. 11, Winnemucca Police Department patrol officers observed a car that seemed to be high centered on the railroad tracks near Bridge Street and Railroad Street. The railroad guard arms at the neighboring street intersection were triggered, and a train with the warning bell screaming was swiftly approaching.
The driver complied when an officer asked him to move a safe distance away from the vehicle. As the driver approached the officer, two more persons, a guy and a woman, exited the vehicle and walked directly into the path of the approaching train. Both were killed.
The identities of those who died have not yet been revealed.
Members of the Winnemucca Police Department advise the public to be cautious when near or on railroad tracks.
The investigation is being assisted by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information on the event can call the Winnemucca Police Department at (775) 623-6396.
