NEVADA – A spokesperson for the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there was an officer-involved shooting in the Virginia City Highland area on Tuesday afternoon. Reno Police have stated that the suspect involved was wanted for weapons charges.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after ramming into multiple vehicles when confronted by Reno Police officers in Hidden Valley. Multiple agencies, including Reno Police, Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County, and Storey County, pursued the suspect and the chase ended near the Storey County Fire Station 72, where the officer-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was then transported to a nearby hospital via Care Flight in an unknown condition. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
Sparks Police are now leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
This update comes after earlier reports of heavy police activity in the Hidden Valley area, with the intersection of Hidden Valley and Mira Loma Drives blocked off. The original article noted that it was unclear at the time what the police activity was related to, but Washoe County RAVEN and K-9 units were on scene, and Storey County issued a shelter in place order for the Virginia City Highlands area.
