Washoe County Health District: RSV Cases Decline in Washoe County

NEVADA – The number of reported cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in Washoe County has been going down, according to the Washoe County Health District.

Health officials state that since October 1 there have been 1,554 confirmed cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

From December 18-24, an additional 151 cases of RSV were reported, marking a weekly decline in occurrences from late November through early December.

The health department reports that although the number of reported cases has decreased, hospitals are still under significant strain as they work to combat RSV, COVID-19, and other respiratory viruses.

In an effort to reduce wait times at emergency rooms, parents are encouraged to contact their child’s pediatrician instead of taking them there when their child is ill.

If your child is having severe respiratory symptoms, including trouble breathing, poor eating, lethargy, dehydration, or apnea, you should take them to the emergency room immediately.
