Drugs in Backpacks, How Nevada Schools Became Drug Dens

Part 5:

My neighbor’s kid, just 13, was offered weed in the school bathroom last week. My heart stopped when I heard. Sarah and Ben are in those same halls, surrounded by kids peddling drugs like it’s a street corner. Nevada’s schools aren’t just failing to teach, they’re turning into drug dens, and I’m beyond angry. I’m scared for my kids, for every kid stuck in this nightmare.

The numbers are sickening. Half of Nevada’s middle and high school students are caught up in drugs, either using or selling, right on campus. In Clark County alone, schools reported over 800 drug-related incidents last year, and that’s just what they admit to. My friend in Vegas found vape pens in her daughter’s backpack, laced with who-knows-what. Nevada law says kids caught with drugs can be expelled, arrested even. But principals slap wrists and send them back to class. I’m shaking with rage, thinking of Sarah dodging dealers just to get to English.

I love my kids too much to let them grow up in schools where drugs are easier to get than a decent education. I hate this culture that’s taken over, where kids think it’s normal to get high at lunch. I’m anxious about what’s next, fentanyl in the hallways? Someone’s got to stop this, and it starts with the leaders who’ve let it spiral. I’m calling them out next, because this mess starts at the top.

Stay tuned, in Part 6, I confront the struggling superintendents and how they can step up to reclaim our schools.
