Lombardo’s Opportunity to Lead, How the Governor Can Turn Nevada’s Schools Around

Part 7:

I voted for Joe Lombardo, believing he’d be the tough leader who’d tackle our school crisis. Two years in, problems like low test scores and violence persist, and I’m worried. But I see his Nevada Accountability in Education Act as a strong start, with open enrollment and better literacy focus. It’s not enough yet, but Lombardo has the chance to build on it and truly save our schools. I’m hopeful, picturing a Nevada where my kids thrive.

Nevada’s still hovering around 47th in national education rankings, with test scores flat and chaos in classrooms. His act promised accountability, but we need more muscle to make it work, like enforcing truancy and safety laws statewide. Compare that to Florida, where bold leadership turned schools around without massive new spending. Lombardo can do the same here, using his authority to support superintendents, expand school choice, and crack down on the issues holding us back. I’m not giving up on him, he’s shown he can deliver on tough issues.

I love my kids too much to let this slide. I’m anxious about their future in a state that’s struggling, but there’s real hope if Lombardo steps up even more. I’m laying out the first step he can take next, because he’s the leader who can make it happen.

Stay tuned, in Part 8, I outline Step 1 for saving our schools: how Governor Lombardo can take charge right now.
