Part 8:
I’m urging Governor Lombardo, seize this moment and declare an education emergency to save my kids’ schools. I’m a Reno mom, watching Sarah and Ben get cheated out of an education in a state ranked 49th for schools. The numbers are a gut punch, most kids can’t read or write at grade level, half don’t even show up. This is a crisis, but Lombardo has the tools to lead us out of it. My heart’s racing with hope that he’ll act boldly.
Lombardo can use emergency powers to step in, support struggling districts, and set new standards for accountability. Building on his Accountability in Education Act, he could ensure open enrollment works everywhere, fire up literacy programs, and give superintendents the backing they need. He’s already pushed for reforms like teacher apprenticeships, imagine what more he could do. I’m done with the status quo. Picture a Nevada where kids learn in safe classrooms, where teachers aren’t overwhelmed. That’s what I’m fighting for, what I love about this state’s potential.
I’m angry at the ongoing mess, but I’m hopeful Lombardo will be the hero our schools need. Parents across Nevada are rooting for him to lead.
I’m laying out the next step he can champion, because we can’t wait any longer.
Stay tuned, in Part 9, I break down Step 2: how Governor Lombardo can stop truancy and fill our empty classrooms.
