Steps 3 & 4, Governor Lombardo Can Kick Out Violence and Drugs, Save Our Schools

Part 10:

I want my kids in a school, not a gang hideout. I’m Jamie Thompson, a Reno mom, and I’m done watching Nevada’s classrooms turn into fight clubs and drug markets. My heart swells with hope imagining schools where Sarah and Ben can learn without fear, and Governor Lombardo can make it happen by leading on safety and discipline. It’s time to take our schools back.

Last year, Clark County reported over 1,200 fights and assaults, 800 drug incidents. That’s not education, it’s chaos. Nevada law says we can expel these kids, arrest them, ban them for good. Lombardo can empower districts to enforce this, building on his education reforms like open enrollment and literacy pushes. I’m furious, thinking of my kids dodging dealers and bullies just to get to class. I hate this system that puts thugs above teachers, above my Sarah and Ben.

Here’s the plan Lombardo can drive: enforce the law, press charges for violence, expel drug dealers. Other states do it, and their schools are safer. I love Nevada, and I know Lombardo can fix this. Parents, rally behind him, demand these changes now. Let’s build schools our kids deserve, where they learn, not survive.

Through this series, we’ve learned the harsh reality of Nevada’s education crisis: dismal test scores, rampant truancy, unchecked violence, and widespread drugs that are failing our kids and breaking families like mine. But we’ve also heard a path forward—a four-step plan for bold reforms, starting with emergency action and enforcement, all led by Governor Lombardo to restore accountability and safety.

Parents, teachers, and leaders can do better by speaking up, supporting these changes, and sharing your stories at editor@thenevadaglobe.com. Together, we can demand the schools our children need—let’s make Nevada’s future brighter.
