LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Residents of the Las Vegas Valley continue to suffer financial problems due to catalytic converter thefts. On Las Vegas Boulevard, at Camping World, the most recent theft took place.
The company claims that 28 converters were stolen last week. One victim said that while he was there for maintenance, one of the RV thieves struck. He claims that the repair will be covered by his insurance, but there will be a $1,000 deductible.
Vehicle exhaust is cleaned by catalytic converters. They may be taken in a matter of minutes, and the pricey precious metals within are what thieves are after. Even more valuable than gold are some of the metals.
To protect a catalytic converter, people can purchase metal plates. One Las Vegas company that restores stolen RV catalytic converters claims to employ a heavy-duty steel cage that is welded on and extremely challenging to remove. It is also possible to buy sound-sensitive alarms that will sound in response to loud noises, such as someone cutting through exhaust pipes to obtain a converter.
There are currently no known suspects in the heist from last week.
