7-Year-Old Boy Selected as Grand Marshal of Las Vegas Mlk Parade

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – “He’s a hero,” Justyn Boumah said of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Even though Boumah is just 7 years old, he adheres to the civil rights leader’s teachings. 55 years after his murder, a leader who gave his life to eliminate segregation continues to inspire people all across the world, including Boumah.

“Martin Luther King taught me that you can help anyone in any kind of way,” Boumah said.

He was chosen to lead the MLK Day Parade in Las Vegas every year as its grand marshal.

In addition to that position, Boumah serves as the president and CEO of the charitable organizations Traveling Toddler and Heroes and Hearts.

He has traversed the globe, assisting in the construction of libraries in Warsaw, Poland, as well as in other African nations.

The 7-year-old created care packages for first responders and sanitation employees during the outbreak.

He was chosen as the parade’s grand marshal for this brief life of service.

“I’m trying to think what the word is… nervous because of all the people and, being excited because [of] being the grand marshal,” he said.

On April 4, 1968, Dr. King was shot and killed when he was standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.

Racquel Boumah, Justyn’s mother, claims that she instills in her son the principles King left behind.

“MLK said that everyone can be great because everyone can serve,” his mother said.

She does this in an effort to uphold and honor King’s memory in honor of his terribly short life.

“Regardless if you give a hamburger to the person experiencing homelessness on the side of the road, or your Bill Gates giving a million dollars to make sure somebody has drinking water in Africa. The service is still the same,” she said.

At 10 a.m., the MLK parade will begin. Monday in downtown Las Vegas on 4th St near Ogden Ave. Pre-parade coverage will be live on Good Day Las Vegas.
