LAS VEGAS – A man was taken into custody early Saturday morning on charges that he started a fire in an east Las Vegas Valley garage while two people were inside the house.
Officers think the man got into a physical fight with his girlfriend in Summerlin before driving to a house on the 2100 block of Falling Rain, near East Sahara Avenue and South Hollywood Boulevard, and starting a fire around 7 a.m., said Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Aaron Lee.
Lee said that the people inside the house, who were the man’s family, got out without getting hurt.
Assistant Fire Chief Dan Heenan said in a statement that two cars were on fire in the garage when Clark County firefighters got there.
“The first reports said that a man was at the house and had set fire to the garage on purpose,” Heenan wrote. “Metro also said that there might have been gunfire before or during the fire that was set on purpose.”
The fire was put out just before 7:30 a.m., and there was no damage to the house. As of 10 a.m., the cause of the fire was still being looked into.
Police didn’t say the man’s name or what he was charged with right away.
