Body Cam Footage Shows Las Vegas Officer’s Fatal Shot From an “AK-47 Handgun” Entered the Officer’s Bulletproof Vest
LAS VEGAS – Vegas Body cam footage shows the moment a guy opened fire on two Las Vegas officers, killing Officer Truong Thai.
Tyson Shawn Jordan Hampton, 24, fired 18 bullets with an “AK-47 pistol” during the attack, penetrating Officer Thai’s bulletproof vest.
Hampton’s wife called the police after being beaten by the suspect. Officer Thai and Officer Ryan Gillihan were summoned to the woman’s home while Hampton sat in a car blocks away.
Officer Thai approaches Hampton to ask “what’s going on,” but he doesn’t respond. The footage shows Hampton first obeying the officer’s command to place both hands on the steering wheel before gazing to the right and removing one hand. The officer then grabs Hampton’s arm and yells, “Get out of the car!”
During a brief fight, the suspect escaped the officer’s hold and fled. Hampton displayed a gun as Officer Thai walked to his truck. The culprit shot Thai, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, from the car’s window. Gunfire also struck Hampton’s mother-in-law. Body cam footage shows both officers firing as the automobile speeds away.
Officers saw Hampton’s vehicle and utilized a PIT technique to stop him.
Thai, shot in the torso, died at a local hospital. Hampton’s mother-in-law was also hospitalized, although her injuries were not life-threatening.
