Clark County School District Applies for $7 Million Grant to Enhance School Safety and Health Initiatives

LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District has applied for a grant under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to secure funding for school safety and health initiatives.

The district is requesting up to $7 million, which would be used to enhance the Clark County School District Police Department’s newly formed Middle School Division, develop curriculum on the dangers of using drugs, and positive interactions with police.

The division would also buy body cameras, hire a civilian crime analyst, and purchase a Mobile Command Unit. The district is also looking to hire an explosive detection K9 and handler, install amplifiers on CCSD buildings to enhance radio communications, and portable digital message boards and trailers.

On the health side of things, the district is asking for funds to repurpose the COVID-19 Mobile Clinic into a general Mobile Health Clinic, create a crisis intervention team, and a Health Resource & Referral Call Center.

The anticipated project period would run from June 23 to Sept. 30.
