The Clark County School District (CCSD), the nation’s fifth-largest school system, is moving forward in its search for a new superintendent. According to documents, the district has contracted with Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) for a fee of $79,000 to assist in the selection process.
The CCSD Board of Trustees voted last week to hire HYA, the same firm that aided Los Angeles in their recent superintendent search. The school board is aiming to have a new leader in place by November 1st of this year.
The upcoming June 13th school board meeting will see the trustees formally approve HYA’s contract. This item is listed on the consent agenda, meaning a lengthy discussion on the topic is unlikely.
For comparison, the district paid $48,000 to Ray and Associates in 2017 to find former Superintendent Jesus Jara. Jara’s contract was terminated in February of this year with a buyout of $250,000. Prior to that, McPherson and Jacobson received $60,000 for a superintendent search in 2009 that resulted in the hiring of Dwight Jones. However, Jones abruptly resigned from the district just two years into his term.
The selection of a new superintendent is a crucial step for the CCSD, and the involvement of HYA signifies the board’s intent to conduct a thorough and efficient search process. The community will be watching closely as the search unfolds in the coming months.
