Clark County Votes To Ban Sale Of Puppies & Kittens In Pet Stores

LAS VEGAS – Tuesday morning, Clark County commissioners voted overwhelmingly to prohibit the sale of dogs, cats, and pigs in pet businesses.

The vote came as local shelters continued to be overwhelmed by the number of animals entering their facilities.

Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft was the first to bring the ordinance to the attention of county leaders. “So many folks in Clark County have no idea where the pet store puppies come from,” Naft added. “We have an animal overcrowding problem, and we’re enabling unethical pet retailers to bring these animals in from other locations.”

According to the county, this will “amend Clark County Code Title 10, Chapter 10.04, Section 10.04.222 adding a definition for ‘offer for sale,’ and Section 10.04.253 amending the definition of the rescue organization,’ and Chapter 10.08, Section 10.08.140 – sale of animals, prohibiting retailers from selling dogs, cats, rabbits, and potbellied pigs; and providing for other matters properly related thereto.”
