LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The status of the police department was a major point of contention during the Henderson city council meeting on Tuesday night.
It comes nearly two weeks after Henderson Police Chief Thedrick Andres faced a “no confidence” vote. On the November 2 statement, which was accompanied by criticism of the municipal government and a need for new police leadership.
At the time, two Henderson police groups representing officers and supervisors claimed their members had voted “no confidence” in Andres by a large margin.
As previously reported, Andres was voted on by the 397-member Henderson Police Officers Association (HPOA) and the 67-member Henderson Police Supervisors Association (HPSA). According to the HPOA, 322 members voted “no confidence” – more than three-quarters of the whole membership. According to the HPSA, 59 members voted “no confidence,” accounting for 96.6% of the entire membership.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Henderson Mayor Debra March and numerous attendees discussed difficulties with the police department. Following the conversation, Andres informed the municipal council that he is prepared to meet with the police unions to resolve the concerns at hand.
After Chief LaTesha Watson was sacked in July 2019, Andres was made chief. Watson, who recruited Andres, was ousted as a result of internal investigations and a dispute with police unions. Andres arrived in Henderson from Texas.
