In a disturbing case of neglect, a dog was found tethered to a pole outside the Nevada SPCA Life-Saving Shelter Thursday morning, left to endure the sweltering sun on hot concrete as temperatures rapidly climbed.
Shelter staff arrived around 9:00 a.m. to find the animal in distress and too frightened to be approached safely. Quick-thinking staff redirected cooling misters toward the dog and slid a bowl of water within reach while awaiting the arrival of Animal Protective Services. The animal is now safe, and a case has been opened, thanks to security footage that captured the vehicle involved.
Let’s be clear: abandoning an animal is not only cruel—it’s illegal. There are lawful, humane options available for anyone struggling to care for a pet. Personal responsibility doesn’t disappear when times get hard.
The Nevada SPCA is urging residents to do the right thing. If you’re overwhelmed, seek help. There are resources, shelters, and programs ready to step in—before it’s too late. No creature deserves to suffer because of someone’s irresponsibility.
