Educator vs. Incumbent: Buck Battles Titus for Nevada’s Critical House Seat

Nevada’s political landscape is heating up as State Senator Carrie Buck officially steps into the ring to challenge longtime U.S. Rep. Dina Titus for the District 1 seat. Buck, a conservative educator turned reform-driven lawmaker, argues that traditional Democratic incumbents like Titus have grown complacent in Washington, ignoring Nevada families and our values.

In her campaign launch, Buck proclaimed: “As a teacher, charter school leader, and conservative State Senator, I’ve fought to turn around failing schools, empower parents, and bring real accountability to government.” She pledged to bring that same no‑nonsense leadership to Washington, prioritizing economic freedom, public safety, and lower taxes, anchoring her platform in President Trump’s vision to “renew the American Dream” for working Nevadans.

From her time at the helm of a charter school to her leadership in Carson City, Buck touts real-world results. She flipped her state Senate seat in 2020 and won again in 2024, even though she ended up the only Senate Republican whose sponsored bills didn’t pass—not because they lacked merit, but because they were blocked by Democrat majorities in both chambers  .

Buck’s campaign zeroes in on a shifting political map. District 1, once a blue bulwark, is now increasingly competitive: Biden won it by 8.5 points in 2020, while Kamala Harris barely squeaked by in 2024—a margin shrunk to 2.3 points. With nearly 37 percent of registered voters unaffiliated, Buck sees opportunity: “Our communities are tired of these failed politicians who have no solutions…”.

Titus, who has served since 2013 and even held a different seat in the early 2000s, will have something to say about that. Her campaign spokeswoman emphasized Titus’ status as one of the most effective House Democrats, contrasting that with Buck’s empty legislative record: “Buck was the only Senate Republican to not pass any bills she sponsored in three sessions”. That’s sour spin from the establishment—a favorite tactic when incumbents face real competition.

Let’s be clear: this campaign is more than a contest between two educators. It’s a showdown between Big Government complacency and grassroots conservative reform. Buck isn’t offering rehashed Democrat messaging—she’s promising accountability, limited government, and personal responsibility for Nevadans. Whether you care about school choice, economic liberty, or restoring law and order, this race is one to watch as Nevada defies predictable partisan maps.
