The legal battle following a violent shooting in a Summerlin law office has taken another turn. The parents of Ashley Prince, one of the victims, have filed a lawsuit against the wife and law firm of the gunman, Joseph Houston, alleging negligence and complicity in the events that unfolded on April 8, 2024.
During a deposition hearing related to a bitter custody battle, Houston pulled out a gun and killed Ashley and her new husband, Dennis Prince, before turning the weapon on himself. The lawsuit claims that his wife, Katherine Houston, who was present in the room before the shooting began, left and never returned—failing to intervene or even check on the victims afterward.
According to court filings, Katherine Houston quickly moved to transfer multiple properties into her name in the weeks following the murder, while also denying creditor claims from Ashley Prince’s estate. The lawsuit further alleges that Katherine and Ashley’s ex-husband, Dylan Houston, may have had prior knowledge of the attack, citing an ominous email from Dylan to Ashley before the shooting, stating, “You have no idea what’s coming, do you? All your cards are on the table, and I haven’t played one.”
The lawsuit, filed in Clark County District Court, accuses Katherine Houston and her husband’s company of negligence, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault, battery, and civil conspiracy.
The case raises critical questions about what could have been done to prevent the violence and whether Katherine Houston had any forewarning about her husband’s intentions. Should she be held accountable for what transpired that day?
As of Monday morning, no court date has been scheduled, but this lawsuit is sure to intensify the legal drama surrounding this shocking crime.
Do you think the lawsuit is justified? Should family members of violent offenders bear legal responsibility? Share your thoughts!
