Fatal Pedestrian Collision on West Hacienda Avenue Marks 34th Traffic Fatality of 2025

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has reported the 34th traffic-related fatality of 2025 following a collision involving a pedestrian on a mobility scooter and a vehicle.

Incident Details:

Date & Time: February 21, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Location: West Hacienda Avenue, west of South Decatur Boulevard

Involved Parties:

Pedestrian: A 63-year-old male operating a mobility scooter, crossing West Hacienda Avenue outside of a designated crosswalk.

Driver: Benjamin Chung, 27, from Irvine, California, operating a 2023 Tesla Model 3.

Circumstances:

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Tesla was travelling westbound on West Hacienda Avenue when the pedestrian, crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, entered its path. The front of the Tesla struck the pedestrian, causing him to be ejected from his mobility scooter. Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to UMC-Trauma with critical injuries. Despite medical intervention, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on February 28, 2025. The driver, Benjamin Chung, remained at the scene, and impairment is not suspected as a factor in the collision. 

Ongoing Investigation:

The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. Authorities urge both pedestrians and drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws to enhance safety on roadways.
