Former NFL Player Henry Ruggs III Sentenced to Prison for DUI Crash Resulting in Death

LAS VEGAS – Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was sentenced to three years in prison for a tragic DUI incident two years ago. After pleading guilty in May to DUI resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter for Tina Tintor’s murder, Ruggs was sentenced in Clark County District Court.

Ruggs pleaded guilty to a 10-year jail sentence with parole after three years with the Clark County District Attorney’s office. Ruggs and Tintor’s families spoke at the hearing. Judge Jennifer Schwartz then imposed a three- to 10-and-a-half-year DUI sentence and a six-month manslaughter penalty. These sentences are concurrent.

In 2021, Ruggs was arrested for DUI and speeding, causing a crash that killed Tina Tintor and her dog Max. Legal disagreements concerning Ruggs’ crash-related blood samples and judicial authority ensued.

In May, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said the plea agreement guaranteed Ruggs a prison term without appeal. Wolfson acknowledged the sentence’s limitations in addressing the Tintor family’s loss, but stressed the need to avoid a DUI dismissal.

The Raiders selected Alabama wide receiver Ruggs in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The terrible crash forced his release after 20 games.
