LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Formula One drivers are in the Las Vegas valley this week ahead of the city’s first-ever Grand Prix.
On Tuesday, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate George Russell took some laps at SpeedVegas, a race track that offers the opportunity to drive exotic cars legally.
The two drivers were welcomed to the track in true Las Vegas fashion, with a drone light show and all the glitz and glam the city has to offer.
After their laps, Hamilton said he was excited to learn the new track and that the desert chill could be a factor in the upcoming race.
“The biggest thing for us is going to be the track temperature,” Hamilton said. “It’s going to be a lot cooler than we’re used to, so we’ll have to adapt our setup accordingly.”
Russell agreed that the track temperature could be a challenge, but he said he was looking forward to the race nonetheless.
“It’s always exciting to race on a new track, and I’m sure Las Vegas will be no different,” Russell said. “I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans.”
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on November 16-18.
In addition to Hamilton and Russell, other Formula One drivers who are expected to participate in the race include Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez.
The race is expected to draw a large crowd, and it is sure to be a major event for the city of Las Vegas.
