LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – A German tourist, Seyed Mehrabi, 21, has been arrested and charged with DUI, hit-and-run, and reckless driving after allegedly striking a man on a scooter with a rental car.
The incident occurred on September 1st around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Twain Avenue and Paradise Road. According to witnesses, Mehrabi was driving a black Mustang convertible at a high rate of speed when he drove onto the median, lost control, and hit the scooter rider from behind. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Mehrabi fled the scene but was later located by police in a nearby cul-de-sac. He admitted to being drunk and refused a sobriety test. Officers found an open alcohol container inside the Mustang.
Mehrabi and his passenger, also from Germany, told police they had rented the Mustang in San Francisco and were visiting Los Angeles before arriving in Las Vegas. They claimed to have met two men in Las Vegas who convinced them to drive around the city.
Mehrabi has been charged with DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, failure to decrease speed or use due care, open alcohol container inside a vehicle, and reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 10th.
