The Las Vegas City Council has approved fine increases for criminal and civil infractions for fireworks-related violations. The new fines will go into effect immediately.
Civil Fines
- First-time offenders: $500
- Second-time offenders: $1,000
- Third-time offenders: $2,500
Criminal Offenses
- First-time offenders: $500
- Second-time offenders: $1,000
- Third-time offenders: $2,500
Why the Increase?
The City Council voted unanimously to approve the bill that cemented the fines. They said that the increase was necessary to deter people from using illegal fireworks.
Complaints
The city of Las Vegas received 53 citations for illegal fireworks in 2022. Shoup said that the city typically receives warnings for fireworks complaints, but that they will issue citations if someone is belligerent or aggressive.
