The Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority formally broke ground on the Senator Joseph M. Neal Jr. Apartments—a new affordable housing complex in North Las Vegas—on July 31. Named in honor of the state’s first African American senator, this project aims to provide nearly 200 units tailored for low-income and fixed-income seniors aged 55 or older.
Located near the corner of Yale Street and North Fifth Street, the $88 million development will offer one- and two-bedroom apartments along with shared amenities like a community center, classrooms, and fitness space. It will prioritize tenants earning 60 percent or less of the area median income; some units will include project-based vouchers and rent coverage through the housing authority.
Officials, including Senator Dina Neal and Congressman Steven Horsford, described the project as a major step toward addressing a local affordable housing shortfall estimated at 92,000 units. The development is expected to be completed by late 2026.
