Henderson City Council Gives the Go-Ahead for Two Land Agreements With Station Casinos for Future Construction

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Following city council votes Tuesday night, two significant projects in Henderson are set to move forward.

Henderson will buy the area along Lake Mead Parkway where the now-demolished Fiesta Henderson Casino and Hotel formerly stood. Members of the city council agreed to spend $32 million to finalize the contract with Station Casinos on the 35-acre parcel of property.

The city intends to construct an indoor multisport complex for child sports. The city has stated that the region need it.

“Almost immediately we’re going to go into a planning process, which will help us determine not only what that facility needs to look at feel like but what else is going to go on that property,” Henderson’s director of economic development and tourism Jared Smith said.

Smith stated that as part of the redevelopment, they want to replicate some of the facilities that were lost when Fiesta closed.

“We’d love to see restaurants pop up and shopping, which would be great for the people there in the sports facility as well as residents downtown and the east side,” Smith said.

The city council also authorized the sale of a 3.76-acre tract of property in Inspirada to Station Casinos for close to $2 million on Tuesday night. The property is close to a few dozen additional acres owned by Station Casinos. The business intends to construct a new resort in the style of Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch Resorts.

It is unclear when development on the project will commence.

In connection with the property transaction, the city council agreed to remove a roundabout at Via Inspirada and Bicentennial Parkway. Residents in the region claimed that the junction increased traffic and safety concerns.

The city of Henderson stated that the roundabout would accommodate the area’s expansion until 2040, but they are turning it into a roundabout now to plan forward.

These were some of Henderson’s last votes for mayor. Outgoing Mayor Deborah March attended her final city council meeting on Tuesday. Michelle Romero, a councilmember and the mayor-elect, will take over in the new year.
