In a time when our culture often avoids the uncomfortable, one hospital in Las Vegas is taking a quiet but meaningful step to restore what society desperately needs more of—human connection, compassion, and responsibility. Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center has announced a free monthly support group for parents grieving the devastating loss of a child, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or sudden infant death.
While the mainstream media would rather spotlight rage mobs and trending scandals, here’s a story of real people facing real pain, and a local institution doing something rare: offering support without a price tag or political motive. This isn’t about identity politics or bureaucratic red tape. It’s about serving families in one of their darkest hours, without judgment or fanfare.
More than 21,000 stillbirths and 3,500 SIDS deaths occur in the U.S. each year. Add to that over a million miscarriages—numbers that rarely make headlines. Yet behind every one of those statistics is a family forced to carry on, often in silence. In an age of collapsing social norms, it’s refreshing to see a hospital take up the mantle of community, offering grieving parents a space to talk, share, and begin to heal.
Meetings begin July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Southern Hills campus on West Sunset Road. While registration is required, the group is open to anyone affected by infant loss, because healing doesn’t care about technicalities or paperwork. This isn’t government-run grief counseling, nor is it a cash grab. It’s what used to be called “neighborly.” And it’s exactly what we need more of.
