LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Nine persons were reportedly detained after being implicated in a narcotics smuggling operation at the local correctional facility, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s office.
According to Nye County, officers at the Nye County Detention Center received information on Dec. 5 that two convicts on an outside work detail were accused of sneaking drugs into the facility.
According to Nye County, an investigation revealed that the couple were importing heroin and methamphetamine into the prison center and distributing it with the assistance of three other inmate personnel.
Authorities said they were attempting to distribute the drugs through the Nye County Detention Center’s laundry distribution.
Four other convicts were also involved in the operation, according to Nye County. Their involvement, however, was not detailed.
According to authorities, all detainees were arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance as well as their participation in a plot to distribute a controlled substance to a prisoner.
Individuals who were prison laborers lost their “worker” status and were charged with additional criminal offenses, according to Nye County.
