LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Relief for residents in central Las Vegas as Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR) crews have successfully sealed the gas leak that prompted evacuations earlier today. LVFR units are currently clearing the scene.

The incident began shortly after noon when a call came in reporting a struck gas line at the intersection of E. Washington Avenue and N. Bruce Street. Responding crews arrived within five minutes and confirmed a significant leak from a four-inch gas line.

For safety reasons, LVFR closed Washington Avenue between 18th Street and Bruce Street and requested residents in the immediate area to evacuate.

Southwest Gas identified the cause of the leak as a third party accidentally striking the line while digging.

“Safety is our top priority,” Southwest Gas representatives emphasized in a statement. “We’re working closely with first responders to secure the area and make the necessary repairs. As a reminder, anyone planning to excavate should call 811 at least two days beforehand to avoid damaging underground utilities.”

The good news is that the leak has been contained and evacuations have been lifted. LVFR crews are finalizing operations at the scene, and residents can now safely return home.
