Las Vegas Judge Sets Bail for Ex-energy Dept. Official Accused of Stealing Luggage

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas judge set bond at $15,000 on Wednesday for a former Department of Energy worker accused of stealing bags from Harry Reid International.

Samuel Brinton, 35, was processed at the Clark County Detention Center Wednesday morning on a warrant stemming from a suitcase theft at Harry Reid International earlier this year, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident happened on July 6, according to authorities. According to LVMPD, a passenger reported a bag stolen from the baggage claim.

According to Las Vegas police, Brinton was identified as a suspect in the case throughout the investigation.

According to authorities, Brinton is facing grand larceny charges (theft valued between $1,200 and $5,000).

Brinton worked for the Department of Energy as a deputy assistant secretary. However, a DOE official told Fox News this week that Brinton was no longer employed by the department.

Brinton is also suspected of taking bags on September 16 at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
