LAS VEGAS – According to the latest crime statistics released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, property crimes in the area around the Strip have significantly decreased. The report showed that robberies and burglaries were down by almost 40%, while car thefts dropped by nearly 20%. The department also noted that arrests in the Resort Corridor were up by 44%.
This news is particularly significant for Las Vegas, a city that heavily relies on tourism for its economy. Jonathan Alvarez, representing Crime Stoppers of Nevada, attributed the decrease in crime to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and private security, such as Protective Force International.
Alvarez emphasized the importance of transparency within the community, which builds trust and encourages locals to report the crime. He also noted the multi-layered approach to security, including visible security personnel, video surveillance, and covert measures.
When compared to last year, the data revealed a 12% drop in robberies, 103 fewer burglaries, and 34 fewer vehicle thefts. Alvarez stressed that increased enforcement measures and safety measures work together to provide a safer community.
To protect oneself, Alvarez advised being aware of one’s surroundings and avoiding phone distractions. Anyone with information about criminal activity can report it to Crime Stoppers at (702)-385-5555 or online while remaining anonymous.
