LAS VEGAS- A guy stabbed at least four people in the university sector over the course of a week, killing two and gravely injuring two others, police said during a press conference Thursday.
Christopher Martell, 33, has been on a stabbing spree along Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway since September 14, according to Las Vegas Metro police.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, a homeless lady was sleeping outside of a shop in the 1400 block of University Ave. when Martell reportedly approached her and stabbed her, according to police.
Police stated it happened approximately 5:50 p.m., although she had been there for a while and was murdered at 2:41 a.m. the day before.
According to authorities, surveillance video showed Martell strolling around an apartment building in the neighborhood immediately after the homicide.
Almost a week later, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, shortly before 7 a.m., another homeless lady was discovered stabbed to death on a sidewalk between Maryland Parkway and Katie Avenue. Police claimed at the time that they didn’t know when she was slain, but on Thursday, they confirmed Martell was the suspect.
At the time, authorities said they suspected he was targeting unhoused women in the region.
Following those deaths, police installed surveillance cameras in an area where they suspected Martell, who had not yet been recognized as the suspect, lived.
Martell reportedly stabbed two more homeless persons in the 200 block of E. Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway near Desert Springs Hospital the next evening, on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at about 5:50 p.m.
According to authorities, Martell attacked both an elderly guy in a wheelchair and the lady pushing him many times. He reportedly assaulted the woman before attacking the man in the wheelchair after she collapsed.
The two patients were taken to the hospital and are still in severe condition.
Police discovered Martell lived alone in an apartment near the 1600 block of Rochelle Ave. and issued a search warrant, according to which they discovered clothing identical to what the suspect was wearing in security videos.
Martell was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and charged with two charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
