Las Vegas Student Honored For Being An Organ Donor After Death

LAS VEGAS – A local hospital recognized a Las Vegas youngster who died unexpectedly at school for being an organ donor.

Jordan Brister, a student at Las Vegas’ Amplus Academy, died “suddenly and unexpectedly suffered cardiac arrest while at school with no explanation as to why,” according to a GoFundMe page.

Brister suffered a heart arrest while in school on January 3, according to Amplus Academy. Staff “gave Jordan with emergency medical assistance until paramedics arrived and brought him to Southern Hills Hospital,” according to the school.

“Despite the efforts of first responders and the hospital’s medical team, Jordan died this past Sunday,” Amplus stated in a statement.

Southern Hills Hospital stated that caring for Brister was an honor. According to the hospital, Brister was an organ donor, and care providers lined the hospital hallways as Brister was taken to an operating room for organ donation in a “honor walk.” Staff reported that there were so many people out to support Brister that other employees in the building had problems fitting in the hallways.

“God knows how many hundreds and thousands of people are struggling for their lives every day. When an organ is donated, it helps to alter the course of someone’s life. “He gets to live on in these people whose lives are impacted and saved,” Southern Hills Hospital’s Dr. Shahid Ahmad said.

Britser’s father thanked the workers at Southern Hills Hospital for their care.

“You’re all family,” remarked his father. “Each and every one of you.”

Brister’s family said their final goodbyes as he was wheeled into surgery.

Jordan’s mother, Savanna Brister, issued the following statement to FOX5:

Jordan was a selfless, respectable Southern gentleman who treated everyone with kindness. He was charming and smart. He wanted to join the military so he could become a pararescue jumper and save others. In the end, he saved others through organ donation, therefore his wish was partially realized. He was a knowledgeable older brother who adored his younger siblings. Jordan was all you could want and more. He has a pure heart.

Brister had planned to join the military after graduating, according to the GoFundMe page.

“Words cannot explain what the Brister family is going through, and there will never be enough answers as to why this has occurred. “He was an outstanding kid who lived life to the fullest,” according to the GoFundMe page.
