LAS VEGAS – The National Weather Service has issued a warning that the Las Vegas Valley may experience its last winter surge with strong winds and a limited chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday. While the high temperature may soon reach the mid-80s, Lincoln County north of the valley is currently under a winter weather advisory with the potential for 2-5 inches of snow and winds of up to 50 mph. Additionally, the Spring Mountains and areas just across the California line southeast of Las Vegas could see winds of up to 65 mph, and there is a chance for a few more inches of snow in the Lee Canyon slopes.
The Monday forecast calls for patchy blowing dust before 10 a.m. with winds escalating from the south-southwest in the morning to 21-26 mph from the northwest in the afternoon, with gusts up to 40 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of isolated showers in the valley between 2 and 4 p.m. On Monday night, conditions will clear up after mostly cloudy skies, with a low of around 39 degrees Fahrenheit and winds from the northwest at 18-23 mph, gusting up to 36 mph.
A wind advisory is currently in place for the Las Vegas area from 5 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, with winds potentially gusting up to 50 mph. Tuesday is expected to have a high of only 59 degrees Fahrenheit, which is over 15 degrees below normal. However, daily highs are predicted to rise several degrees each day of the week, reaching a projected high of 85 degrees Fahrenheit on Easter Sunday.
