LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating a crash in the east valley that killed a minor.
LVMPD received reports of a crash involving two vehicles on South Durango Drive at Starboard Drive at 3:21 p.m. on Saturday.
According to investigators, evidence at the site, witness accounts, and security video showed that a 2007 Land Rover Sport was heading southbound on Durango near the intersection with Starboard Drive in the midst of three travel lanes. A northbound 2009 Ford Expedition was approaching Starboard in the lone left turn lane on Durango Drive.
According to LVMPD, the incident occurred when the Ford turned left at the junction and entered the path of the Land Rover. The Land Rover was rerouted to the west sidewalk, where it collided with a concrete light pole.
The occupants of the Land Rover fled the area before police arrived, according to officials. Medical authorities at the site pronounced the driver of the Land Rover dead.
The driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries and was taken by EMS to UMC Trauma.
According to LVMPD, the driver of the Ford cooperated with the inquiry and showed no signs of impairment.
The driver’s death is the seventh traffic-related death under the LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2023.
