A Las Vegas man, Jaron Amey, 35, is facing multiple charges, including open murder and kidnapping, following a series of violent events stemming from a disagreement over money, according to police documents.
On August 11, police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex on Maryland Parkway. The victim, Eric Davis, was found dead with a gunshot wound. Surveillance footage and an anonymous tip led police to suspect Amey.
Two days later, Amey’s girlfriend alerted police that he was holding two men hostage at gunpoint. She also claimed Amey had forced her into her car at gunpoint, threatening to kill her and her children if she didn’t drive him out of state. She managed to escape when Amey stopped for gas.
The hostages later told police that Amey had threatened them with a gun and physically assaulted one of them. He fled the scene when he heard a police helicopter overhead.
Police arrested Amey and he admitted to shooting Davis, claiming self-defense. He is currently being held without bail and faces charges of open murder, kidnapping, assault, robbery, and battery.
