LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Detective Gustavo Garcia of the Mesquite Police Department is no longer employed by the City of Mesquite.
“Upon completion of the internal investigation, Garcia was terminated on Monday, January 9,” read a statement from Mesquite Police Sergeant Wyatt Oliver.
According to an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper report, Gustavo Garcia, 35, was pulled over in Kingman, Arizona in November in his unmarked patrol car. Someone contacted authorities to report that the motorist was traveling at roughly 30 miles per hour on the highway. The speed limit was marked at 65 miles per hour. Garcia began “staggering” while walking and had problems “keeping his balance,” according to the report, and a trooper assisted Garcia to keep him from falling down. According to the DPS report, Garcia’s blood alcohol concentration was.24, which is three times the legal limit.
According to the DPS report, a trooper discovered an open bottle of Jagermeister Cold Brew Coffee and an unopened full bottle of Jagermeister in the center console. A trooper discovered a revolver in Garcia’s waist during a search, according to the report.
The report also says the Chevrolet Equinox driven by Garcia was “found to be a department-issued city of Mesquite unmarked patrol vehicle.”Based on the report, the Mesquite Police Department informed that a captain from the department would be dispatched the next day to collect up Garcia’s equipment and patrol unit. According to the complaint, a Mesquite Police Department captain signed a DPS property release form for all unreleased goods. According to the report, while taking control of the car, the captain discovered and seized possession of a Glock 17, 9mm handgun, which they determined was a duty firearm held by the Mesquite Police Department. According to the report, one evidence item, a Glock 19 handgun, was perhaps Mr. Garcia’s personal property, thus it was put in the DPS property room for safekeeping.
contacted Mesquite’s mayor and council members to inquire about the detective’s status, as well as for comment on Garcia’s DUI arrest while driving a city vehicle. Mayor Allan Litman said Garcia was no longer employed by the city of Mesquite and directed questions to City Manager Peter Jankowski. Councilor Paul Wanlass mentioned City Manager Peter Jankowski as well. So yet, the city manager has not responded.
