Nevada DMV Urges Against Paying for Appointments Amid Ongoing Outage Recovery

The Nevada DMV is warning residents against purchasing free appointments or seeking services through unofficial “scalpers,” emphasizing that all appointments are provided at no charge. Following a recent statewide cyberattack that shut down offices, appointment slots have become scarce. Currently, the earliest openings at the Flamingo Road DMV location are available starting October 9. DMV spokesperson Hailey Foster reminded the public that these appointments should never come with a price tag, citing concerns over scams that could result in financial or personal data theft. She suggested watching for new appointments posted online each Tuesday after 8 p.m., when hundreds of Wednesday slots are added. The practice of third-party appointment reselling has become increasingly common, prompting the Legislature to pass Senate Bill 169, which will take effect on October 1 to regulate the practice. Websites like Appointment Trader have updated operations to comply with the new laws, according to its founder.
