LAS VEGAS – A member of the Nevada legislature has proposed the establishment of a state lottery with the intention of contributing to the funding of mental health initiatives for Nevada’s younger residents.
Assemblyman CH Miller has put out a proposal to change the Constitution of Nevada, which, if passed, would clear the way for the Silver State to launch a lottery.
According to Miller, the amendment would eliminate the provision of the Nevada Constitution that currently outlaws lotteries.
Miller states that proceeds from the state lottery will fund mental health initiatives for Nevada’s youngsters.
According to Miller, the present lottery restriction forces Nevadans to cross state lines into California or Arizona to purchase lottery tickets, “sending millions of dollars in revenue that could have benefited Nevada residents” out of the state.
Assemblyman Miller stated, “The last few years have shown us how crucial mental health care is and how inadequate our current infrastructure is.” “This constitutional amendment legalizing a lottery and allocating the proceeds to adolescent mental health funding is a common sense solution that will aid the numerous Nevada youngsters who, as I did as a child, face mental health difficulties. Currently, we are transferring millions of dollars to neighboring states over the border. It is time to invest fully in Nevadans by passing this constitutional amendment.”
