LAS VEGAS – A North Las Vegas man, Harvey Elman, is facing multiple charges following a disturbing discovery made by an employee at a service company. According to police documents, Elman brought his laptop to the unnamed company on December 26, 2022, seeking assistance with email-related issues. What transpired next shocked both the employee and law enforcement.
During the consultation, an employee noticed that Elman’s laptop contained images of child pornography. The police report states that the employee recognized Elman from a prior customer service interaction. When Elman opened his laptop’s mail application, an email displaying an explicit image of an underage girl was visible.
Alarmed by the content, the employee promptly excused himself and reported the incident to his manager. Law enforcement was immediately contacted. When the employee returned to Elman, another image featuring an underage girl was displayed on the laptop.
Upon arrival, the police found multiple emails from the same address with similar explicit content. During questioning, Elman confessed to downloading the images from the internet without cost, admitting that he enjoyed viewing them. The laptop was subsequently seized as evidence.
A search warrant was obtained to delve deeper into the laptop’s contents. This investigation revealed a distressing collection of 245 images and a video depicting child sexual abuse material. These images spanned various forms, including real photographs and animated depictions of minors.
Further investigations led to two additional search warrants targeting Elman’s email accounts. It was discovered that he had sent an email containing child sexual abuse material in December.
Arrested on August 3, Elman is facing charges including possession of visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a person under 16 years of age and distributing materials depicting pornography involving a minor. While Elman’s exact age was not detailed, his birth year of 1948 places him around 74 or 75 years old.
Elman has admitted to viewing child pornography on his home desktop as well. Law enforcement is in the process of obtaining a search warrant for his residence and electronic devices. As the investigation unfolds, additional charges may be filed based on the findings from the search warrant.
Elman’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 9 at 8:30 a.m.
