LAS VEGAS – Get ready for a wet start to the Labor Day weekend in parts of the Las Vegas Valley, as the National Weather Service forecasts a risk of showers and thunderstorms from Thursday evening through Sunday. Friday and Saturday are highlighted as potential flash flooding days, with thunderstorms posing a flash flood threat and a marginal severe wind risk. A flood watch spanning the entire region is in effect from Friday morning to Saturday evening, and Clark County has issued a dust advisory for Friday due to anticipated high winds.

Meteorologist Brian Planz explained, “These are monsoon showers, so it just depends where the storm hits. An area could get a quick half-inch to an inch of rain.” While temperatures are slightly lower than usual, moisture from northern Mexico and southern Arizona, drawn by a West Coast trough, is contributing to the weather conditions.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms have a 20 percent chance on Thursday night. Friday’s forecast predicts a 70 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms, likely after 3 p.m. Saturday sees a 60 percent chance for showers or storms after 11 a.m., with a high of 89 and wind gusts up to 22 mph. Sunday’s high is expected to be around 89 with a 20 percent chance of isolated storms or showers.
