LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – According to authorities, a Las Vegas man is charged with open murder after reportedly stabbing his lover to death during an altercation on December 15.
If convicted, Anthony Cardenas, 27, faces life in jail without the chance of release. He is being detained at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a stabbing call at a house near St. Rose Parkway and Spencer Street.
At around 10 a.m., a man subsequently identified as Cardenas dialed 911 to inform him that his partner had been stabbed.
“The details given by Cardenas were vague. He stated his boyfriend got stabbed by an unknown suspect but that he believed the suspect used a ‘kitchen knife,’ an arrest report reads.
Officers on the scene observed the alleged victim on the ground while Cardenas was near the apartment complex’s sidewalk. According to the story, the injured guy was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and treated for a major laceration to his chest before succumbing to his injuries.
“He and his lover got into a verbal disagreement earlier in the morning, and the alleged victim slapped Cardenas before leaving the apartment,” Cardenas told authorities. Cardenas said that when his boyfriend returned, he was stabbed.
Cardenas had blood on his hands, sweatshirt, and jeans when being questioned by police, which he said was from trying to save his lover.
Cardenas stated that he and his partner had a disagreement before heading to a Wendy’s and then a Del Taco after being read his Miranda Rights.
According to Cardenas, once both men returned to their flat, another dispute ensued. Cardenas said investigators that’s when the accused victim left the house and subsequently returned with a stab wound.
“During the interview, it was apparent Cardenas kept changing his statements,” the report reads. “I asked Cardenas several times if he had stabbed his boyfriend to which he replied that he would never stab his boyfriend.”
“If he were going to stab the alleged victim it would have been 10 years ago when they started dating,” the report states.
According to video footage recovered by police, Cardenas can be seen charging towards the accused victim with a huge kitchen knife in his hand, then swinging it “back and forth as he charges” his partner.
According to the police report, the alleged victim can be heard shouting “Stab me, [redacted]” before backing out of the doorway outside and Cardenas “swung the knife in a downward motion” into the victim.
According to authorities, a search warrant was issued, and officers discovered a long kitchen knife with blood residue within a butcher block.
