LAS VEGAS – Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles was charged with murder with a dangerous weapon in Las Vegas journalist Jeff German’s stabbing death.

German was discovered dead with several stab wounds outside his residence on September 2. Authorities said DNA and security footage linked Telles to the killing.
Telles “willfully, unlawfully, with malice aforethought” killed Jeffrey German, 60 or older, with a lethal weapon, according to the criminal complaint.
Telles, who lost reelection in June, was identified as a person of interest early in the inquiry because a vehicle was seen at his residence before and after German’s killing, Koren said. The car registered to Telles’ wife was at German’s house when he died.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, German was writing about Telles the week he was killed. German stated that Telles created a hostile work atmosphere and had an inappropriate interaction with a colleague.
Review-Journal: Telles refuted the reports. Telles lost a Democratic primary in June and his term ends in January.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, journalist murders in the U.S. are rare. Since 1992, when the non-profit began keeping track, eight journalists have been killed in the US, including four in a 2018 mass shooting at the Capital Gazette in Maryland.

Telles, 45, allegedly stabbed German “several times” Authorities suspect Telles “laid in wait” for German, calling the murder “willful, planned, and premeditated.”
CNN has contacted Telles’ attorney about the lawsuit.
Tuesday is Telles’ next court date. Without bail.
Las Vegas police homicide Cpt. Dori Koren said the suspect approached German’s home and moved to the side. German stepped outside soon after and was stabbed many times, Koren said last week.
