LAS VEGAS – Southwest Airlines’ problems continue to worsen, with thousands of flights canceled, meaning it might take days for passengers to return home.
As of 5:30 p.m. on Monday, 360 flights had been canceled. It is close to 250 on Tuesday.
Southwest Airlines, Harry Reid International Airport’s largest carrier, is responsible for the great majority of these cancellations.
According to a Southwest official, thousands of unclaimed luggage are at Harry Reid International Airport.
“I’m not sure when I’m going to get home,” Karen Whitelaw explained.
Whitelaw is one of the hundreds who are unable to travel to Southwest. Due to national airline issues, she attempted to rebook her New York travel for later next week. However, she must do so in person because she was unable to cancel her original flight remotely.
“I’m sure the site went down. I tried using the app, then online, and then I asked my daughters, who are more tech-savvy, to assist, but they couldn’t “According to Whitelaw.
Ernest Jones was attempting to return his 9-year-old boy to his mother in Texas.
“They’re not even checking to see if they can switch themselves,” Jones added.
Although his flight is not canceled, the increased rebookings and apparent unreliability of staffing indicate that there is no room for unaccompanied youngsters.
“I really want to come home,” Christan Hines, 9, said.
“You’ve got to find a way to make it work or get his mother to fly here and buy another trip with a different airline. That’s two tickets, then “Jones stated. “That’s probably another $800 at this point in time.”
Even if the passengers make it through, their stuff may not. According to a Southwest official, there are 3,000 unclaimed luggage on the site.

“The majority of us will submit a claim,” Dana Stren, whose luggage has been missing for four days, said. “I had to go shopping for clothes, toiletries, and medicines. Consider the items we bring with us on a daily basis.”
According to the Southwest spokesperson, they are providing flight vouchers and lodging where possible. However, travelers claim that this is insufficient given the number of work and vacation days they have already lost.
Southwest’s CEO stated that two-thirds of its regularly scheduled flights had been canceled across the country into tomorrow.
