LAS VEGAS – A Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Maui took an unexpected turn on Monday when it was diverted to Oakland due to an alleged bomb threat. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the security incident on Flight 3316, according to Hawaii News Now.

The Boeing 737 aircraft, as tracked by FlightAware, was rerouted approximately two hours after its departure from Las Vegas. Reports indicate that a flight attendant and other passengers received a threatening picture on their mobile devices depicting a possible bomb on the plane.

While the pilot initially announced a mechanical issue as the reason for the landing in Oakland, a sheriff’s officer boarded the aircraft upon arrival. Canine units were deployed to search the cabin, and as a precautionary measure, passengers were required to leave all their luggage behind.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the source and validity of the alleged bomb threat.
