LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe)- After a man was discovered shot to death in a parked car in the northeast Las Vegas valley last month, police say a suspect has been identified and jailed on a murder charge.
Diego Cruz-Gomez, 21, was already in detention on an unrelated allegation, according to a statement released by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on Wednesday. He was arrested again on charges of open murder with a lethal weapon.
On Thursday, Oct. 20, LVMPD received a complaint of a man firing at a parked automobile in the 1200 block of Christy Lane.
Officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound, and he was subsequently confirmed dead at a hospital. Sergio Giovanni Calzada, 21, of North Las Vegas, was identified as the victim by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
According to LVMPD, investigators think Calzada was sitting in a parked automobile when another individual approached him and opened fire.
Cruz-Gomez was placed into the Clark County Detention Center on Oct. 21 on robbery and grand larceny charges, according to jail and court records.
Police did not elaborate on how Cruz-Gomez was identified as a suspect in Calzada’s death. It is unknown when he will appear in court on the murder accusation.
