LAS VEGAS – The city will euthanize the dog that attacked and murdered an 88-year-old woman.
The dog’s owner has until Aug. 29 to request a hearing on the vicious categorization. If not, Buck will be euthanized. Animal control says it’s a terrier mix.
Joan Cafflel’s grandson owned Buck. Cafflel died following the Aug. 9 attack near Desert Inn Road and Valley View Boulevard.
Her grandson, Peyton Faircloth, told 8 News Now on Monday that he won’t pursue a hearing. If the dog is dangerous, he must be killed. Faircloth claimed he’d never look at the pet the same.
Buck cuddled with Cafflel often, but less as Cafflel’s dementia progressed.
Cafflel’s babysitter said she left him with Buck while she went to the kitchen. She heard an odd noise and saw the dog dragging the older woman by her neck.
Cafflel was pronounced dead at the scene.
