LAS VEGAS – In a recent announcement, The Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip confirmed that its remaining three Atlantic bottlenose dolphins have officially departed from the property. The dolphins, formerly residing at The Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage Las Vegas, have joined the dolphin family at CoralWorld Ocean Park’s Sea Sanctuary in St. Thomas.
The relocation of the dolphins is the result of a collaborative effort between The Mirage and Coral World, both dedicated to the care and well-being of these remarkable marine creatures. The Mirage expressed its commitment to providing an excellent home for the dolphins, ensuring they receive continued professional care and education to promote ocean conservation.
Joe Lupo, President of The Mirage, stated, “Our team has spent years caring for and loving these dolphins. Throughout this relocation process, we have ensured they will have the best possible home to live wonderful lives.” The Mirage also revealed the names of the three dolphins: Huf-N-Puf, Coco, and Lady Ace.
Lady Ace holds a special significance as she was born at The Mirage on August 16, 2019, and was named in honor of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, who went on to win the championship that year.
David Blasko, Executive Director of Animal Care at The Mirage, expressed confidence in the dolphins’ new home, stating, “Coral World’s Sea Sanctuary is an exceptional home for our dolphins.” A dedicated team of specialists accompanied the dolphins on their transport flight.
Coral World’s Sea Sanctuary spans nearly two acres, offering a spacious and natural environment for the dolphins to thrive in. This relocation follows The Mirage’s earlier announcement in February when three dolphins from Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat were moved to SeaWorld in San Diego.
The decision to rehome the dolphins comes after the unfortunate loss of several dolphins that had been a part of The Mirage’s facility for many years. Duchess, the property’s original dolphin, passed away in January at the age of 48.
The Mirage’s efforts to ensure the well-being of the remaining dolphins reflect their ongoing commitment to responsible animal care and conservation.
